Everything you've ever wanted to know
Yes. Our silk pillowcases are machine washable. We recommend washing them on a delicate, cold-water cycle with a small amount of gentle detergent. You might also like to pop your pillowcase in a delicates bag, for extra protection.
If you prefer to hand wash your pillowcase, simply fill a clean sink or large bowl with lukewarm water and a small amount of gentle detergent. Swirl your pillowcase in the solution for 3-5 minutes and rinse well.
Whether you hand wash your pillowcase or use a washing machine, we recommend rolling it up gently in a towel to absorb excess moisture, before laying it flat to dry. Do not use a tumble dryer and try to avoid drying your pillowcase in direct sunlight.
For an ultra-soft feel after washing, you can iron your pillowcase while it is still slightly damp. We recommend turning your pillowcase inside out to iron and/or covering it with a thin cotton sheet. Set your iron to steam on a low heat (or a specific silk setting).
The OEKO-TEX 100 Standard label means that every component of your pillowcase has been tested for harmful substances and is safe for the entire family.
Mulberry Silk is the silk produced by the Bombyx mori moth—a silkworm that eats the leaves of the Mulberry tree. It’s made up of long individual strands which gives it a refined, ultra-smooth finish and extra durability.
Momme (mm) is a traditional unit of measurement denoting the weight and density of a piece of silk. The higher the momme, the more strands of silk there are in each 100 yard measurement, which makes the fabric heavier. Generally, the higher the momme, the higher-quality the silk.
Our silk pillowcases and accessories use Grade 6A silk in a 22 momme weave, which is thicker and more luxurious than the average silk pillowcase.
Silk fabric is graded either A, B, or C with grade A indicating the highest quality.
Within each grade (A, B, or C) the quality of the silk is further graded on a numerical scale (1-6), with 6 being the highest quality.
All our silk pillowcases and accessories have received a Grade 6A rating, indicating the highest possible quality.
In Chinese, “Mei-Mei” literally means younger sister. The term can also be used in a more general sense to refer to a young girl. We wanted to include Mei-Mei in our name because our products aren't just for adults. All of our silk pillowcases are available in a mini, toddler size too!
Mei-Mei is the family nickname of one of our founders, as she is the youngest of 3 children. She recalls always feeling safe and cared for by her parents and older siblings, as though she had an invisible safety net of people looking out for and thinking about her. We want all our customers, kids and adults alike, to feel that way too, so they can sleep peacefully at night and have brighter days.
Our pillowcases are made in China, the original birthplace of silk. The earliest known example of silk fabric was found in the Chinese province of Henan, and is thought to date back to 3630 BC.
Our partners in China have been approved by the quality assurance body Interek and have received STANDARD 100 OEKO-TEX certification.
All of our fabric is digitally printed. We chose this printing method as it uses substantially less water than traditional screen printing and allows us to operate a flexible print-on-demand system, resulting in less waste.
